Full Moon Rituals for Cleansing, Clearing, and Letting Go (and How to Charge Your Vedic Smudge)
If you’re energetically sensitive, you already know the moon doesn’t just change the tides. It changes people. It changes sleep, emotion, intuition, and the subtle “volume” of what we’re carrying.
The full moon is a powerful moment in the ritualistic space because it brings things to the surface. It illuminates what’s ready to be seen, felt, and released. In many spiritual and ancestral traditions, it’s a time for cleansing, clearing, letting go, and charging the tools that support you.
This is why the full moon is one of my favorite times to work with Vedic Smudge.
Why the full moon feels so intense (especially for sensitive people)
The full moon is often experienced as amplification.
If you’ve been holding stress, it can feel louder. If you’ve been avoiding a truth, it can rise to the surface. If you’ve been doing deep inner work, it can feel like a breakthrough.
That’s not a bad thing. It’s information.
The full moon is a natural checkpoint that asks:
What is complete?
What is no longer mine to carry?
What needs to be cleared so I can move forward lighter?
Full moon cleansing vs. full moon charging
Two things can be true at once:
The full moon is a beautiful time to release.
The full moon is also a beautiful time to charge.
Releasing clears the space. Charging fills the space with intention.
That’s why full moon rituals can feel so satisfying: you’re not just “getting rid of” something—you’re making room for what’s next.
A simple full moon ritual with Vedic Smudge (5 minutes)
You don’t need a complicated ceremony for it to be real.
Open a window (even a crack). Let the energy move.
Mist your space (corners first, then the doorway).
Mist around your body (front, back, above the head).
Place a hand on your heart or belly and say:
“I release what is not mine.”
“I call my energy back to me.”
Take three slow breaths.
That’s it. That’s a ritual.
Putting your Vedic Smudge bottles in the full moon
One of the simplest ways to work with the full moon is to place your Vedic Smudge bottles where they can receive moonlight.
Why this matters
Your Vedic Smudge isn’t only a scent. It’s a ritual tool made with intention—herbs, oils, stones, water, and sacred geometry working together.
Placing your bottle in the full moon is a way of saying:
“Recharge this tool.”
“Amplify the intention.”
“Clear anything it picked up while supporting me.”
How to do it (simple + safe)
Place the bottle on a windowsill or outside where it will receive moonlight.
If you’re outside, keep it protected and stable.
If you’re inside, moonlight through a window still counts.
Optional: before you place it out, speak one sentence into it:
“Support me in releasing what I’m done carrying.”
Full moon releasing rituals (choose what feels right)
Releasing rituals are powerful because they give your nervous system a container.
Below are a few options. Pick one. Keep it simple.
1) Write + release
Write down what you’re ready to let go of.
Examples:
“I release the pressure to do everything perfectly.”
“I release energetic cords that aren’t mine to hold.”
“I release the version of me that survives by overgiving.”
Then choose one of these:
Cut it up (symbolic separation)
Burn it (transformation)
Soak it in water until it falls apart (dissolving)
2) Water bowl ritual (gentle + powerful)
Fill a bowl with water.
Mist Vedic Smudge above the bowl and say:
“May this water hold what I’m releasing.”
Whisper what you’re letting go of into the water. When you’re done, pour the water into the earth or down the drain with intention.
3) Cord-clearing reset (for empaths + helpers)
If you’ve been around a lot of people, this one is for you.
Mist around your body.
Sweep your hands down your arms and torso (like brushing off lint).
Say: “I release what isn’t mine. I return to myself.”
Which smudge to use on the full moon
Use what your system is asking for:
Ground + Calm when you feel scattered, porous, or overextended
Energize + Uplift when you feel heavy, stuck, or emotionally dense
Soothing + Cool when you feel hot, reactive, or mentally overdriven
The real point of full moon ritual
Full moon rituals aren’t about doing it “right.” They’re about being honest.
They’re a way to mark an ending, clear the residue, and choose what you want to carry forward.
If you’re sensitive, ritual isn’t extra.
It’s hygiene.
